Getting involved

Hello again,

Today I would like to talk about getting involved. Many of us carry handguns for self defense, we shoot handguns for enjoyment or to just relax and have fun with friends or family. We use guns to hunt for sport and to feed our families. But like most of the people that are involved with guns in some way we sit back and don't think about the fact that our Constitutional rights can be taken from us. If you say there is no way ten take a look at this Brady Campaign Wants Guns Out of Starbucks.

There are numerous organizations out there that put pressure on businesses and companies to prevent honest US citizens from defending themselves. The Brady Campaign, mayors against illegal guns, here is a list of organizations with anti-gun policies. There is also a list of Anti-Gun Individuals & Celebrities, take a look down the long list. We have a fight on our hands And we must make our voices be heard.

How do we do that you ask? Lets start simple, we contact our local Representatives You can hit that link and locate your local Representative for the State of Tennessee. If you are not from Tennessee you can google "my state of (insert state) representative" and you should be able to find it.

Now that we know how to find our Representatives what should we write or email them? Well first and foremost let's remember to be polite and non threatening. Hate mail will be thrown away and threatening mail will bring the men in dark suits and sunglasses by your house for a not so friendly discussion. What should be in our letter or email?

Keep it Simple
Your letter should address a single topic or issue. Typed, one-page letters are best. Many PACs (Political Action Committees) recommend a three-paragraph letter structured like this:

1. Say why you are writing and who you are. List your "credentials." (If you want a response, you must include your name and address, even when using email.)
2. Provide more detail. Be factual not emotional. Provide specific rather than general information about how the topic affects you and others. If a certain bill is involved, cite the correct title or number whenever possible.
3. Close by requesting the action you want taken: a vote for or against a bill, or change in general policy.

The best letters are courteous, to the point, and include specific supporting examples.

How do you address your letter or email?

To Your Senator:

The Honorable (full name)

Dear Senator:

To Your Representative:

The Honorable (full name)

Dear Representative:

The above addresses should be used in email messages, as well as those sent through the Postal Service.

Each member will have a local address as well as a State address, their email addresses will also be listed. There are many issues that affect us every day for example here in Tennessee we have *HB 0959 by *Bass ( SB 1126 by *Norris) This is a bill to make it illegal for news papers and others to post the personal information about gun permit holders in the State of Tennessee. This bill failed and we need to contact our House and Senate about getting this bill back up for another vote.

Here is what has been on the Commercial Appeals web site. Type in any last name like "jones" and hit the search button, you will pull up many Jones. Click on details at the the end of the line for any one of them, you will get some very personal information about them. In fact it is enough information that you could easily get enough information about the person to figure out addresses and other stuff that bad guys do not need to know.

So why the news paper feels this is a good thing to do I don't understand. I wonder how they would feel if I posted all the information about the staff of the paper on the internet for the world to see.

I will touch more on this tomorrow since I have run long on this posting. I hope that you will make the effort to do a little research and find out who represents you and how they are voting on these issues. And then take a little time out of your day to write them and let them know how you feel about the issues. This is the easiest way to keep our rights, and don' forget to Join the NRA and you can do it for FREE

And remember to take someone shooting you may just change the mind of a Liberal on Guns. And I would also like to congratulate The 2009 firearms salesman of the year:
